Weekend Entertainment: MCM Comic Con Birmingham

Coming up this Weekend is MCM’s Comic Con in Brum and it looks set to be a cracking good show! Alongside the Comic books and memorabilia there will be plenty of Stars floating around the show across the two days.

I suppose the highlights for me would be ‘Lee Majors’, who will be there on Saturday - if you don’t know who this is he stared in ‘The Fall Guy’ back in the 80’s and the ‘Six Million Dollar Man’.

On Sunday though, you may get the chance to see ‘Liv Tyler’, who of course played the character ‘Arwen’ in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy.

e-Sports

Additionally the show has expanded to include an MCM eSports arena which will be featuring the Ultra Street Fighter 4 Tournaments.

The above will be the staple tournament until the release of Street Fighter 5 in Q1 2016.

Schedule:

  • SATURDAY: 9.30am to 5pm (For Priority Ticket holders) 11am to 5pm (for General ticket holders)
  • SUNDAY: General Free Play
  • You need to check in prior to the start of the tournament as soon as you are able to get into the hall.
  • Tournament Starts @ Midday  on Saturday (12:00 AM) where the brackets will be drawn up.

Additionally alongside the USF4 tournaments Corsair Gaming will be running a League of Legends Free play area on both Saturday and Sunday.

Cosplay

One of the most fun aspects of heading to these shows is getting a chance to witness all the cool Cosplay outfits that people spend a long time making. The event will also be showing its appreciation by providing tools & assistance for repairs, bag storage, changing areas, and last but not least large cosplay competitions on stage- the Cosplay Masquerades!

Star Wars Auction

On Sunday the show will also be hosting a special auction (which we will be there to cover - ed). It will feature 21 individually signed Ralph McQuarrie prints of original Star Wars concept artwork, with all proceeds going to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Donated anonymously for the auction, the prints each feature the Star Wars Corporation embossed logo and were commissioned by George Lucas himself to help conceptualise the first Star Wars films.

Each piece of artwork features scenes and characters instantly recognisable to fans of the films, including C3PO, an X-wing and Darth Vader. Sally Insley, community fundraising manager at Acorns, said: “The images are out of this world, so this really is a one-off opportunity for one lucky individual.

An exhibition of the prints will be on display at Comic Con, before the auction at 3pm on Sunday, overseen by Leamington firm, Hawkesford estate agents.

For those who don't know, Acorns provide specialist round the clock care for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people. In the past year the charity has cared for over 760 children and more than 980 families, including those who are bereaved.

To continue its care, Acorns must raise more than £9 million every single year for its three hospices and relies on fundraising, for the majority of this amount.

For anyone interested in bidding on the items, this can be done in person at MCM Birmingham Comic Con, or by visiting www.acorns.org.uk/starwars
